A soothing touch really can ease away pain, according to a group of researchers. The scientists working on this found that gentle stroking activates the pleasure nerves beneath the skin, which then reduce the sensation of pain from the other nerves.

In their research, the team found that people who were exposed to painful temperatures on the surface of their skin felt less pain if they were stroked at the same time. The scientists believe signals to the brain from the nerves that detect the pleasurable stroking dampen the signals from nerves that detect the pain. Professor Francis McGlone, a neuroscientist at the Liverpool University, has also calculated the optimum way of touching someone to produce to produce the most pleasure.

While speaking at the British Association for the Advancement of Science, the researcher said that the key was to stroke with a slow speed and little pressure.

Professor McGlone, who also works for Unilever’s research and development team to develop pleasurable textures for new produces, said, “The picture that is emerging is that there are two seperate nerves for painful and pleasurable touch. They also seem to mediate each other, so rubbing does make pain feel better,” a newspaper quoted the scientist, as saying. Professor McGlone also believes that touch is crucial for child as they develop and insufficient physical contact while growing up could be implicated in the risk of depression in later life. He said that human bodies were covered in pleasure nerve fibres, known as C fibres, apart from the palms of hands and sole of the feet.

MAYBE IT WAS THE LUXURIOUS ROOM, the king-size bed or the couples’ massages. It might have been breakfast overlooking the ocean. Or the sandy beaches—some say the best in the world. The rainbows alone could have done it. But Jeniffer Mewett thinks it was probably the kiss she and her new hubby, Ryan, shared at the top of Haleakala volcano that made their honeymoon one for the ages.

The Mewetts were picked up at the Westin Maui at 3 a.m. and driven 38 miles and 10,000 feet up to the top of the volcano, just as the sun was rising. “It was just incredible,” she says. “It’s hard to describe how beautiful it was. It sounds corny, but it was truly a romantic moment for us.”

Jennifer and Ryan live in Rancho Peñasquitos, and she speaks of her time on Maui as if it were a dream. She’s not alone. Islands and dreamy romance come as a package. Like peanut butter and jelly, you don’t think of one without the other.

San Diegans Ellen and Richard Brown go back every year for “second honeymoons” in Aruba, because of the nightlife, the beauty and the warm, welcoming Arubans.

“There’s something about the place,” says Ellen. “The first time we got off the airplane there, it was magical.” In addition to myriad clubs and restaurants, Aruba’s hotels are noted for their theme parties, which include entertainment, dinner and dancing. If you’re feeling lucky, the Crystal Casino is open 24 hours every day.

The island boasts the usual secluded beaches and diverse marine life, but it’s also known for its scuba diving, especially among shipwrecks (there are nine to explore). Possibly the most eerie is the German freighter Antilla, referred to by locals as the “ghost ship.”

There’s Exuma, with its secluded beaches; Cat Island, the least inhabited of the Bahamas, with an 8-mile pink-sand beach; and Kamalame Cay, a private island just for couples. “It’s not a resort,” says Williams. “It’s a few villa and cottage suites, right on the beach. It’s just for romance, and when I think of romance, I think of quiet places where no one else is around.”

Fiji. Smack dab in the heart of the South Pacific sit 330 islands known as the Republic of Fiji. Tom Hanks was stranded on the island of Nanuya Levu in the film Cast Away, but seclusion such as that isn’t life-threatening for honeymooners—not with all those papaya and coconut trees on the beach.

Fiji is beautifully diverse, with white-sand strands and black-sand beaches, lagoons, coves, volcanic peaks and jungles. The outer islands are the essence of romance, each a tropical oasis where couples can throw off their clothes, stick a hibiscus behind each ear and do anything they want.

On Nanuya Levu you can frolic in the same blue lagoon Brooke Shields once did. Several resorts are posh and secluded, strictly limiting the number of guests, so couples can truly feel they’ve entered their own little paradise.

Lovebirds are found more often on Moorea and Bora Bora. Moorea has a wide, emerald lagoon and green mountains, where waterfalls tumble down velvety cliffs. Hidden in the meadows are fields of pineapple and vanilla, and the shore is dotted with tiny villages.

When Corona residents Robyn and Kraig Eckard honeymooned on a cruise to French Polynesia last year, they went to a private island—or motu—for the day. Colmbier is the most secluded and most difficult to reach—you either take a boat from the city of Gustavia or hike down a scenic path for half an hour.

Lately I’ve been reading a lot online about sex positivism. I attempted to write about it before, but I wasn’t too happy with the post that came out of it. To get myself going I started talking about the 4 young women around me aged 17 - 20. All of them claim to have “sex positive” views on life, and to test this I asked them how often they masturbate. They all answered quite openly with answers ranging from “everyday” to “once every two weeks”.

They also described what ”sex positive” means to them. To these four it was being open and not having to be ashamed. Being honest and appreciating the ”wonderful world of sex”, which is most definitely a human thing. Feeling good about yourself whether you’ve slept with 4 guys or 42 and having this as an across the board thing, no double standards. Saving ones self for marriage has the problem of marrying someone who likes S&M while you like missionary… or you not knowing what you want at all - so there should be exploration so you don’t get a Hot Carl on your honeymoon.

They believe that sex negatives “need to get laid more”. They got a little side tracked on that question. … They all agreed that they had grown up in sexual homes and that their attitudues are all about how they were brought up.

For me personally, sex positive doesn’t mean having a high sex drive or slinking around in clothing that hides little to nothing. It’s not about being able to talk amongst friends about masturbation and sexual acts, although that is important, sex positivism is about so much more than that. It’s about the importance of fighting for women whose sexuality fits in and out of the box.

A big part of political and patriarchal control is limiting the sexual acts and freedom of a woman and even of men. Sexual violence against women is one of the many ways that this happens, also the negative attitudes towards escorts and strippers - people are trying to limit and control their sexuality. The key here is to create a world in which women’s sexual choices are always respected. ALL women. If they’re monogamous, polyamorous, dykes, asexuals, bisexuals, like to sleep around… etc. they should all be respected. Is that enough? I don’t think so. As well as being respected their sexualities should be appreciated.

What I loved about talking to the four women today was that each one of us respected the answers of the other. We didn’t devalue each other’s sexuality and choices instead we treated each others sexuality as the norm, no matter what the answers were. Everyone in the world shoud understand that any sort of healthy choice about sex is one that is to be respected and appreciated. By healthy I mean consentual and practiced with condoms, or other birth control and defense against disease. Men have, for a long time, been given the privilege of having a sex life that is normalized and valorized.

Samie and I are sex positive women because we believe in liberation of women and their sexualities. We believe in the importance of celebrating women and having each and every one of their voices heard. When we each speak of our personal sexual experiences and choices we’re not just talking about a small deal. We’re talking about something that many women in the world are too scared to talk about, what some women have been conditioned to be embarassed about and what some women have just completely have had stolen from them. The fact that the five of us sat around talking about our sex lives, desires and activities was liberating, exhilerating and full of such hope.

None of them put themselves into a box, one likes to explore all sexes, the other likes to dabble with multiple guys at a time, another liked straight vanilla sex… We didn’t put each other into a box. We didn’t make fun. We weren’t embarassed. All women in the world need this level of freedom. They all need to know their sexualities are down right sexy. Their sexualities are exciting. Their sexualities are interesting, honorable and most of all -completely f’n gorgeous.

That! is why I am a sex positive woman. And why I believe that every woman in the world should learn that their sexualities and desires are beautiful, normal and completely alright to talk about.

Seeing the sign that you could possibly be dangerously in love? True love, the genuine care and concern for your love is what we should be having. But lust, the uncontrolled desire or craving for your love is certainly not to be desired. Having too much of lust than to love can certainly bring danger to your love relationship. But well, we are still human afterall and I must say that these very two emotions is certainly within and happening inside of us. You can never deny that fact that you will be having lust at times.
